#InternalNetworks Becoming More Common in Businesses

Businesses in NY are turning to internal social media networks in the workplace. The Montefiore Medical Center in The Bronx used it to compose a carpooling network during Hurricane Sandy and other companies use these networks for brainstorming ideas and sharing documents.

These corporate networks are provided mainly by Yammer and Salesforce and function similar to traditional social media platforms with profiles and following. Instead of other posts, their posts are related to work subject such as a marketing campaign idea or a change in deadline for an assignment. Although chat and share functions are similar to other networks, some internal networks can be more extensive and offer company-wide announcements and polls to monitor other workers.
