Graduate Journalism Professor Sree Sreenivasan, is now working to coordinate an online learning strategy across Columbia University.  His focus for Columbia thus far is to work on hybrid programming for low-residency programs, to connect people to Columbia who aren’t already, and to elaborate the idea of a “flipped classroom.” The flipped classroom is the concept of having a video lecture available before the class and then discussing it in class.

Sreevinson said that although he does not believe massive open online courses to be the ‘best thing ever,’ Columbia engineering is experimenting with them to learn as much as they can as fast as they can.  In a generation of YouTube and TED talks,  Sreevinson said that students will soon be deciding on colleges based on how digital they are and he wants to help Columbia enhance it’s digital offerings.
