An assistant professor at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University has received the Google Focused Research Award to support his research on social networks. Oded Nov, in collaboration with Mor Naaman from Rutgers, will be using psychology and sociology to look at the ways in which user interface design shapes online behavior and vice versa. They will examine the effects of what they call “social traces” (user feedback) and “social cues” (attributes from prior visitors).
