Under the direction of media evangelist Jeff Jarvis, the program will cover topics including emerging business models, new technologies, hyper local ventures and advanced uses of new media and social media.

Journalists also will learn the publishing side of business: fund raising, budgets, revenue, advertising, marketing, distribution and how to work with investors, programmers and tech people. CUNY is one of several universities hoping to seed new online journalistic ventures. HuffPo's Ken Lerer has been teaching a six-session non-credit course at Columbia University on how to launch a journalism business and UNC Chapel Hill's School of Journalism has a business-side graduate concentration as well.
