Startup Weekend- Success in 54 Hours

Startup Weekend, part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week, provided to be a 54-hour successful event for NY developers, marketers and entrepreneurs in order to share ideas and network. The recently held event was organized by the not-for-profit Kauffman Foundation and has proven to be a success story for the over 30,000 entrepreneurs its helped since 2007.

At the event, Ryan Flynn, founder of a startup to help give hearing impaired access to cellphone conversations, was weary of the concept upon arriving at the Friday-Sunday night event. But he explains, “It was great to have two solid days to focus on solutions to things I’d been stuck on. We had a working prototype by the end of the weekend,” according to Crain’s New York. Its three directors also have written a book titled Startup Weekend: How to Take a Company From Concept to Creation in 54 Hours to explain the experience thoroughly.

Ping-Pong For All at Boxee’s NYC Headquarters

Recently, Business Insider toured the office of Boxee; the startup that makes software/hardware that allows users to stream video from the web to a TV set. Its office, located in New York's Chelsea and Union Square area, is equipped with a full bathroom, living room and ping-pong table. Anyone who comes into the office is challenged and must play.

The company is currently looking to hire a lead iPad and iPhone app developer.

Dank Apps: Developer of popular Facebook game The Lotto, is in the process of being sold for an undisclosed sum.
Esgut: Developer of several Facebook games, was sold for over $1 million to Social Gaming Network.

Facebook Developer ‘Garage’ Cancelled

The open-to-the public Facebook developer "garage" scheduled to take place next month at NYC’s Harvard Club has been canceled by its organizer Fahad Khan according to The Insider.

Khan explained to the publication the cancellation was due to the fact that the event ran counter to Facebook’s traditional "developer-driven, ground level events." He plans to tweak and reschedule the event for later on.
